50 States in 25 Days

Truly amazed again!!!
I just thought of a fun Valentines Day project for Mason and Maverick, and your support has been incredible!!! For those of you not aware, I sent a simple email request for cards or letters from each of the 50 states. And now the project has gone International. Mason can't wait until the first card arrives. This is the email I sent out: We feel the love from around the country, but wouldn't it be fun for Mason to see? After finding our United States poster and a package of heart stickers, we are ready to place stickers on all 50 states. What a surprise for Mason to see how many people, churches and friends from around the country are thinking of him? Can you send a card, postcard, prayer, or just a simple note and bring a smile to our mailbox this Valentines Day? (It doesn't have to be a valentine, please include your city and state)

We will keep you updated as the cards arrive. I know this project will bring smiles in the days ahead as each day brings new challenges. Thank you from the bottom of our heart.

Amy said...: Just from the friends I have contacted, you will be getting dozens of Valentine's. Have you warned your mail carrier yet? :) I wouldn't be surprised if you receive in the thousands with the huge community support you have. His wife's friend is your cousin and our son Richard, told us about Mason. We have started praying for him and your family and today I sent off some home made postcards and one regular postcard in one envelope to have our part in his special geography project!! We hope it brings him much joy! Our hearts hurt for you. May God give you grace!

About Mason Arik

To continue Mason's dream and his memory, we dedicate this blog to him. He has been diagnosed with Diffuse Pontine Glioma (Brain Tumor) (04/22/10). He courageously battled his cancer for 11 1/2 months. On March 29th, 2011, it was snowing in Heaven. He is and will be missed forever. We will continue to write and share the strength and courage that Mason has taught us as well as the many other lives he has touched, near and far. Discovery of Tumor-Dx April 22, 2010

Beginning in March of 2010, Mason complained of severe headaches, mostly at night. Then the headaches went from 2-3 times a month (over a 2 month period) to every night and more severe, by the 3rd night I contacted his pediatrician. I was told to give him Excedrin Migraine.

But by the next day we were walking to school and he had double vision- Thanks to the school nurse, we scheduled an appointment that day with Sabates eye care. After his eye was dilated they noticed his eyes were shifting. An immediate MRI was scheduled.

After the most agonizing MRI, we went home awaiting the results. That's when we were told it was a tumor (pontine glioma) We waited to visit the doctor before researching the internet. So imagine the shock to hear this is the worst locations to find a tumor, inside the brain stem. (inoperable and unfortunately very serious)
