Life is a Roller Coaster

We are Home!! We had a fabulous vacation. Once again Maverick was on cloud nine at Six Flags. He begged me to try the awesome, daring roller coasters. Now, I wonder why I didn't jump at the opportunity? After Ally rode Journey of Atlantis at Sea World, she was content at staying on the ground. Apparently her 42" height did not matter; no dips, or speed for her.

We had the most wonderful stay at Homewood Suites in San Antonio, right on the Riverwalk. (see below) We send our thanks for our accommodations and are extremely grateful, beyond words.

The kindness throughout our trip never forgotten. My heart in tilt a whirls, because Mason should be here, he deserves to be the one smiling. Give Kids the World provided our tickets to Natural Bridge Caverns, Six Flags, and Schilitterbahn in Texas. It expires one year after issue. A year too short for Mason. Each place smiles and laughter consumed our day. Each new adventure, I vision Mason. You know that echo of laughter you hear at amusement parks? It reminds me of the laughter missing. Whether it was the splashes, tidal waves, or that roller coaster that goes upside down and all around.

My emotions like being a giant balloon; one day filled, but at any given moment deflated again. Here's to trying to stay a float and riding a roller coaster every chance you get!

We shared your ups and downs, knowing how much you enjoyed watching Maverick and Ally...yet missing Mason so much in the picture! And while I doubt if I will be able to walk in the 5K, I hope to be there in my team Mason shirt and contribute to the much needed cause!

Anonymous said...: Ron is planning to sign up to walk in the 5K. He did his first 3 mile walk last night in preparation for the big day! Who knows, maybe he'll run some! I believe Mason's story has really inspired Ron to want to get healthier and enjoy life to the fullest. He is super excited with the progress he's made as before he was a couch potato! Continuing to think of you all and remembering Mason!

About Mason Arik

To continue Mason's dream and his memory, we dedicate this blog to him. He has been diagnosed with Diffuse Pontine Glioma (Brain Tumor) (04/22/10). He courageously battled his cancer for 11 1/2 months. On March 29th, 2011, it was snowing in Heaven. He is and will be missed forever. We will continue to write and share the strength and courage that Mason has taught us as well as the many other lives he has touched, near and far. Discovery of Tumor-Dx April 22, 2010

Beginning in March of 2010, Mason complained of severe headaches, mostly at night. Then the headaches went from 2-3 times a month (over a 2 month period) to every night and more severe, by the 3rd night I contacted his pediatrician. I was told to give him Excedrin Migraine.

But by the next day we were walking to school and he had double vision- Thanks to the school nurse, we scheduled an appointment that day with Sabates eye care. After his eye was dilated they noticed his eyes were shifting. An immediate MRI was scheduled.

After the most agonizing MRI, we went home awaiting the results. That's when we were told it was a tumor (pontine glioma) We waited to visit the doctor before researching the internet. So imagine the shock to hear this is the worst locations to find a tumor, inside the brain stem. (inoperable and unfortunately very serious)
