Walk to School Day!

It's International Walk to School Today!
For us, walking to school brings up so many memories. Like the first day of school, August 22, 2006. I asked Mason if he wanted to turn around and go home, after all he has a summer birthday. But he walked ahead, never slowing down.

And then the morning of April 21, 2010 when he tugged at my arm making me stop in my tracks. " I have double vision mom." "Double vision," still echos in my head. How does a kid know what double vision is anyway? It was the beginning of a nightmare, a day I wish I could change. A walk I will forever remember.

Today we walked to school a fall chill in the air. Mason was very quiet; racing ahead not wanting to converse in small talk. Now, I sit and wonder what lies ahead and how Mason never looks back....wanting more out of every day.....

I agree with what Melinda said. Love you all and thinking of you every day! Thank you for reminding us what really matters in our life- kids, smiles, splashes, pumpkin picking together and hugs. Sometimes we forget about those and focus on what doesn't matter like messy rooms, grocery shopping and late evenings. Thank you for sharing every day with us and reminding us to embrace what we have and run with it-forgetting our limits and restrictions and disturbances. You are truly an inspiration to us all Andria. Your strength is amazing and we are all the better because of it.

Brandie said it all... I, too, remember that day in April because as the crossing guard I was confused why Mason was walking back home with you after you'd walked with him to school. You laughed a little and said you had to take him to the eye doctor. Of course, I never thought much about that until later when Carolyn shared the tragic news of the discovery of the brain tumor on that fateful day...How strong and brave you all have been through this journey. Thank you for sharing with so many, you have helped put things in perspective for all of us.

So glad our paths have crossed and that our children have shared many walks together to and from school. So fun seeing them race one another to the sign posts or hearing them talk about the next Bakugan battle they will play after homework is done. These are the little moments I cherish of our kiddos.
